Privacy Policy

Effective November 3, 2026

This policy explains what Chemical Messenger ("we") collects when you use Chemical Messenger, why, and who it is shared with. We collect as little as the forum needs to work, we don't sell personal information, and we don't run advertising trackers.

What we collect

  • Account: your email address, password (stored hashed by our database provider, never visible to us) and the display name you choose.
  • What you post: threads, replies, votes, guide comments and photos. Posts and photos are public.
  • Photos: your browser shrinks each photo and removes its embedded data (including GPS location, camera model and time) before it is uploaded. We store only the cleaned copy.
  • Assistant questions: the questions you ask and a daily count used for the 20-a-day limit.
  • Reports: when you report a photo, we store that you reported it and the reason you gave. Staff can see this.
  • Technical data: our hosting providers keep standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and to keep the site running.

Cookies and storage

We use a sign-in cookie to keep you logged in, and your browser remembers whether you picked light or dark mode. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. YouTube and Rumble videos load only when you tap them; YouTube videos use its privacy-enhanced domain (youtube-nocookie.com). Once a video loads, that provider's own privacy policy applies.

Who we share it with

Only the service providers that run the site, each limited to what it needs:

  • Supabase: database, sign-in and photo storage.
  • Vercel: website hosting.
  • Anthropic: when you use the Ask assistant, your question and the forum passages it draws on are sent to Anthropic's API to write the answer.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and posts until you ask us to delete them. Daily assistant counts are kept for abuse prevention. Server logs are kept for the providers' standard periods.

Your choices

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account and everything you posted, by emailing hello@chemicalmessenger.com from the address on your account. Depending on where you live (for example California or the EU/UK), you may have further rights, which we will honour.

Age

Chemical Messenger is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and note significant changes on the site.
